Vision
  • These institutions testify to the dedication and perseverance of late Karve’s efforts to realize his vision.
  • To-day the visionary is not in our midst. But his vision continues to inspire us and The New Progressive College of Teachers’ Education is a token of the trust’s commitment to fulfill late Shri Karve’s vision.
A Visionary's Voyage
Seventy nine years ago in 1934 when the people of Mehsana saw a 20-year young Marathi boy sweeping a dark, dingy cell in Panjra Pole, filling water and ringing bell for the seven students whom he had collected after a lot of persuasion perhaps found him crazy and dismissed his effort as a prank. But the young boy who had the vision continued to till and toil and emerged as a doyen of education in the district or in the region.

The one-cell classroom flourished in to a banyan of educational institutions and the complex known as “Karve School” has become a landmark on the map of education in North Gujrat. Yes, it was “Karve Vasudev Ramchandra Karve(1916-1993) who had seen the vision of making Mehsana a hub of educational activities – from humanities to technical – had begun his voyage from that dark cell of Panjra Pole where 79 years ago he was a teacher, a sweeper and a peon for those students whom he looked after like a parent.

The “One-Cell School” which was given the name of the New Progressive School became trust in 1957 and since then New Progressive Education Trust has opened prestigious institutions like the Homeopathy Medical College – the only one in North Gujarat – Arts Teachers’ Training college, College of Computer Studies, College of Business Administration and also hosts the IGNOU Study Center the only one in the district. The Trust also had the privilege of running the district ELT Center under the HRD Ministry for five years (1997-2002).
